Hertco Kitchens - CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD (CARB) UPDATE:

Hertco Kitchens is pleased to announce that with the support of our vendors, we have almost completed the transition to California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant products.

The following is a list of CARB compliance deadlines:

  • HWPW-VC or Hardwood plywood using veneer core must contain no more than 0.08 parts per million of formaldehyde to be considered compliant by Jan. 1, 2009.
  • HWPW-CC or Hardwood plywood utilizing a composite core must contain no more than 0.08 parts per million of formaldehyde to be considered compliant by July 1, 2009.
  • MDF products must contain no more than 0.21 parts per million of formaldehyde to be considered compliant by Jan. 1, 2009.
  • Particleboard must contain no more that 0.18 parts per million of formaldehyde to be considered compliant by Jan. 1, 2009.

Although these deadlines are firm, CARB has allowed a sell-through period to use up existing inventories of materials that are still in the marketplace.

Hertco Kitchens is defined under the CARB regulation as a fabricator (a company that manufactures domestic or imported finished goods made with regulated composite wood panels). As a fabricator, we have an 18 month sell-through period to ship non-compliant materials after the established deadline. Hertco dealers are categorized under the retailer business definition that also has an 18 month sell – through period.

We are confident that we will ship compliant materials by these established deadlines and expect to meet the regulations by June 2009.

The only product that will not meet the CARB compliance requirement is the material used to make the white plywood case construction, all other material choices will meet California Air Resource Board requirements.
